SUMMARY: Four of 12 to be replaced, rest on "as-needed" schedule Only a few of a dozen street lights identified as being in need of replacement on the west end of Millersburg will be replaced. Village Administrator Kevin Brooks informed Millersburg Village Council Monday May 9 that four light poles will be replaced by American Electric Power over the next few weeks. The poles are part of a string of 12 between Grant and Alexander streets. The remaining eight in need of replacement will be addressed on an as-needed schedule. “Some aren’t in as bad condition as the others,” Brooks said. “Obviously, if (AEP) can get another year out of them, they will.” The street lights are mounted on aluminum poles and will be replaced with similar poles, Brooks said. Brooks further updated council on a funding package for Phase II of the state Route 83 sidewalks project. Brooks said the village has applied for $75,000 in Community Development Block Grant dollars from the Holmes County Commissioners. The village is also seeking funding from the Ohio Department of Development and the Appalachian Regional Commission. The project will pick up where Phase I left off at Glen Drive and proceed north. Intersection improvements will also be part of the project. Mayor Jeff Huebner read a proclamation encouraging residents to mark police memorial week “by deed, mark and attitude” towards local law enforcement who put their lives on the line everyday “protecting life and property”. A service marking this sacrifice will be held Sunday, May 15 at 5 p.m. the Millersburg United Presbyterian Church. In other business: Council approved a $2,000 bed tax disbursement for live flowers for downtown. Council approved annexing a 1.135 acre parcel owned by Arlie and Evelyn Rodhe near Parkview Drive. The parcel will be developed as a single family residential lot. Council accepted by resolution a 2009 market analysis for downtown and revisions to the downtown design review board’s standards. The changes and formal approval of the analysis are needed for a grant application for Historic Downtown Millersburg. The next meeting of Millersburg Village Council will be held Monday, May 23 at 7 p.m.
