6/9/11 Mother, son plea to drug trafficking charges

                        
SUMMARY: Mother sold prescribed anti-anxeity drug A Fredericksburg mother and her son who sold her medication as well as other illegal drugs pleaded Wednesday June 8 to drug trafficking charges. Brenda A. May, 50, 9272 County Road 192, pleaded guilty in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to one count of trafficking in a schedule IV drug within the vicinity of a school. Her son, Joshua K. May, 28, also of 9272 County Road 192, pleaded guilty to trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in a schedule IV drug and trafficking in cocaine. The charges against Joshua further carry the specification of occurring within the vicinity of a school. According to Holmes County Prosecuting Attorney Steve Knowling, the sales were conducted using a confidential informant working with the Holmes County Sheriff’s office. The informant purchased drugs from Joshua May on four occasions between Nov. 23 and Jan. 18. Brenda May sold Alprazolam on Jan. 14 and Jan. 16. The drug sales were made in two parking lots in Holmesville. The informant arranged buys with Joshua May and Brenda May separately, Knowling said. Alprazolam is an anti-anxiety drug. Brenda May said Wednesday that she had a valid prescription for Alprazolam, and the pills she sold were her medication. The charges are fourth-degree felonies and each carry up to 18 months in prison. Common Pleas Judge Robert D. Rinfret ordered presentence investigations and scheduled sentencing for July 20.
