A Glenmont man was sentenced Thursday Sept. 15 in Holmes County Common Pleas Court on a reduced charge of domestic violence. Eddie Howell, Jr., 31, 206 Garland Street, was sentenced to 360 days in jail by Common Pleas Court Judge Robert D. Rinfret on charges of domestic violence and endangering children. The charges are first-degree misdemeanors and each carry up to 180 days in jail. The charges stem from July 12, when Howell struck an adult female member of his household. According to Holmes County Prosecuting Attorney Steve Knowling, the woman suffered injuries to her lip and shoulder and was treated at Pomerene Hospital. Minor children were present in the home when the assault occurred. Howell was originally charged with third-degree felony domestic violence. Knowling said the state brought felony charges because Howell has a prior domestic violence conviction and an aggravated menacing conviction. However, the aggravated menacing charge did not involve a member of Howell’s family, as the state thought, and therefor was not applicable to the case, Knowling said. Also Thursday in Holmes County Common Pleas Court, David A. Miller, 22, 455 Main Street, Killbuck, was sentenced by Rinfret to 12 months in prison on one count of trafficking in marijuana. Miller sold marijuana to a confidential informant working with the Holmes County Sheriff’s office Feb. 23 and March 4. Rinfret further ordered Miller to pay back buy money in the amount of $100 used by the informant to purchase the drugs.
