2010 was a good year for Meteor Sealing Systems in Dover, Ohio, a German owned company specializing in sealing systems for the automotive industry. Not only did the 100% automotive related company experience a busy and profitable year, but they will continue to positively impact the Tuscarawas County economy in 2011 through a significant company expansion. “2011 is going to be a very strong growth year,” stated process engineer Chris Seward. “We are starting sealing systems for the Mercedes 166 M Class project, and we will be hiring, at the least, an additional 50 new people before July. We also have a new sealing project for the Karma Fisker, a sports luxury hybrid car, which will be starting up this first part of the year, and we are looking at an additional 30 people just for that. Longer term in 2011, we will also be doing a sealing system for a new Volkswagen Beetle, and we’ll also be ramping up production for GM’s convertible Camaro. So you will see a lot of growth in 2011.” Meteor Sealing Systems will continue to combine European automotive sealing technology in partnership with world-class automobile manufacturers to produce quality products for consumers. It also an environmentally conscious company, with a comprehensive environmental policy that promotes continuous and measurable improvement in environmental performance. The majority of Meteor’s products are made of rubber, which is purchased from a Cambridge, Ohio supplier, adding even more dollars to the Ohio economy. With the addition and expansion of new product lines in 2011, Meteor Sealing Systems is rising to the occasion. “It has been a big challenge to bring in the equipment and materials to do this new kind of work, a different type of sealants than we’ve done in the past. We were fortunate enough, with a local bank, to gain financing to put this equipment into this facility, and to continue to grow this facility and to add work for the local community and ourselves for years to come,” said general manager Chris Sprague. “We greatly appreciate Westfield Bank, of Medina, for coming on board and supporting us. We beat the bushes through the government and local agencies to find funding. We weren’t looking for a handout, just looking for a loan to help us get the materials and equipment in here until we could get paid from our customer to pay off the community.” Sprague is proud of the fact that Meteor will be able to impact the local economy through its growth. “We are adding new people. It is more of a labor-intensive product that we are doing now. What we are doing is a different type of sealing than what we were doing before, more of the glass runs than just the door sealings. We are hoping this will also open up more opportunities with other car companies with having experience with the different sealings that are used throughout the automobile industry. As it is, we will be growing our business by at least 10 to 14% in 2011.” The future is indeed bright for Meteor Sealing Systems.
