Summary: Ken Landes is the grand prize winner of the Win a Night with the Wooster Oilers contest, which was a Wooster Weekly News promotion in combination with the Oilers. Landes won tickets, merchandise, a gift certificate and the opportunity to drop the first puck at a Wooster Oilers game. Landes plans to include his family in the trip to the game. Ken Landes enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and family, especially when it is in combination with hockey. His 12-year-old and 16-year-old grandsons are Wooster Oiler fans and the two will soon merge as a result of some luck. The Wooster Weekly News offered a promotion in collaboration with the Oilers to treat a community member to a fun evening. The Win a Night with the Wooster Oilers contest called its winner, Landes, on Friday, Dec. 9, to announce he had won the grand prize. There were four prizes awarded to four different winners, but the grand prize included Wooster Oilers merchandise and tickets, a gift certificate to Buffalo Wild Wings and the opportunity to drop the puck at the beginning of the game. Landes was not home when his wife received the call, and he couldn’t believe he actually won when he heard the news. He didn’t think much of it after entering the contest weeks before. “When I told them (grandsons) I had these tickets they said, ‘oh you’re our favorite grandpa,’” Landes mused. He plans on making the game a family affair with his children and grandchildren. While all of the prizes excited Landes, he is pretty thrilled to drop the first puck. “It’s like throwing the first pitch at a ballgame,” Landes continued. “I guess I’ve watched their stats since they’re a local team, probably since they started.” He added that hockey is one of those games best watched in person, as it’s easier to follow the puck. Of course, the audience can also experience the chill of the ice and the sound of the hockey puck connecting with the net. And despite being loaded with talent and skill, the Oilers probably wouldn’t argue that just like in Landes’ case, sometimes, winning big involves just a little bit of luck.
