Summary: A very impressive shop awaits quilting aficionados in scenic Paint Valley, just five miles from Millersburg, Ohio. Thousands of bolts of the most up to date, high quality fabric line up for a dazzling display of project possibilities here, making Somewhere Sewing a perfect place to spend an afternoon, or maybe even a whole weekend at a quilting retreat, in Ohios Amish Country.
If quilting is your passion, a visit to Debi and Dennis Moffitts Somewhere Sewing in Millersburg must definitely be on your agenda while in Ohios Amish Country. In fact, even if you can only visit virtually on the shops website, the 7,400 (and counting!) bolts of fabric in the 3200 square foot shop inspire breathtaking possibilities.
We have seen a big resurgence in quilting these past four or five years, comments Debi Moffit. Somewhere Sewing is a perfect place for out of town visitors and local residents to catch up with the quilting craze.
All of the fabric in our shop is also available to our online customers, explains Debi. We ship worldwide. When they first come into Somewhere Sewing, people always exclaim at all that we have to offer. We are constantly shipping out fabric, but we are bringing it in constantly as well.
Debi Moffit emphasizes that new bolts of the most up to date, highest quality fabrics arrive at the store weekly. All of the new, current fabrics that we are bringing in are just $8.55 a yard for standard 45 inch wide quilting fabrics, adds the owner. That is much lower than you will find elsewhere.
These bolts are all top of the line, from well known manufacturers of quality materials.
Hoffman Batiks, Moda, North Cott, Benartex, Robert Kaufman; we carry almost every other fabric manufacturer line, notes Debi. We also sell individual fat quarters, one yard flat folds, books, patterns, threads, rulers – everything you need for your quilting projects.
We always have featured specials, as well as sales, both in our store and online. When on sale, our fabrics may drop down as low as six dollars a yard, added the shopkeeper. Quilting is our main focus, although we do have wearable fabrics. We have batiste, batik, wearable linens, corduroys, and dark blue and black tri-blend denims, as well as a large selection of solids. We also can custom order for large amounts if needed.
Customers looking for wonderful opportunities to upgrade their sewing machines love to shop at Somewhere Sewing, where equipment from Brother and Baby Loc is typically offered at 30% below the manufacturers' suggested retail price.
When our customers purchase a machine from us, I give them unlimited one on one training classes on the machine. We dont limit them to two hours, or two lessons. I will also walk a machine owner through new processes on the phone, or I will invite them to come on down to the shop for another free session. Prospective customers benefit from Debis hospitality, too. When people come in the door to look, I sit them right down, show them the basics, and invite them to try it out!
Personalized service is important to the Moffits. Dennis teaches free machine maintenance classes with the ladies when they purchase the machines. People can bring in their machines for repairs when necessary, or Dennis also offers on site repairs in the homes of customers.
Dennis and Debi will also take their special classes on the road. Debi is a certified Quilt in a Day instructor, and also a Martha Pullen licensed Serger instructor.
Quilting retreats, classes by well-known quilting instructors, and other special events throughout the year compliment the mission of the stores owners, who moved to Amish Country in late 2010 from Tennessee, where they operated a store with 12,000 bolts of fabric. Dennis Pennsylvania Dutch roots were part of the impetus for moving to this part of Ohio, but Debi says there was more to the story. Our current location wasnt working out. We were regular visitors to this area, returning year after year, and out of a sound sleep one night, I was just convicted that this is where we had to be. We closed our shop on October 23 there, and moved here a week later with three semi loads of fabric and supplies. It was a God inspired, God driven decision. From the day that we opened, we have stressed to God be the Glory. He has always held and directed us.
This is particularly evident in the Moffit couples commitment to giving back to others. They participate in Project Linus, where blankets are made for hospitalized children; Conn-Kerr Pillowcases where fun, bright new pillowcases are given to children going in for chemotherapy treatments; and Quilts for Valor, which provides handmade quilts for soldiers at VA hospitals and other sites. The shop also serves as a drop off location for these worthwhile service projects.
