The Dover Library welcomes mystery author Carrie Bebris By Patricia M. Albrecht Summary: Guests will spend time in Jane Austen's world as they listen to a special presentation from Dayton mystery author Carrie Bebris on June 28 at the Dover Public Library. Award-winning novelist Bebris has written several books that revisit classic characters from Regency England. On Tuesday, June 28, at 7 pm, Carrie Bebris of Dayton will be the special speaker featured at the Dover Public Library’s author program. Best known for her Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Mystery Series, Bebris began her writing career as a journalist, college English teacher, and editor before setting out to write two fantasy novels, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (2001) and Shadowborn published in 1998 and written with William W. Connors. In 2004, Bebris made her mystery novel debut with Pride and Prescience: Or, a Truth Universally Acknowledged. She went on to write Suspense and Sensibility: Or, First Impressions Revisited (2005), North by Northanger: Or, The Shades of Pemberley (2006), The Matters at Mansfield: Or, The Crawford Affair ((2008), The Intrigue at Highbury: Or, Emma’s Watch (2010), and The Deception at Lyme: Or, The Peril of Persuasion set to be released this fall. Set in Regency England, the novels include some of Jane Austen’s best-known characters. Bebris, who holds a masters degree in English Literature with an emphasis on nineteenth-century authors and studied Austen, revisits classic characters while spending time in Jane Austen’s world. In her novel Pride and Prescience, Bebris notes in the acknowledgment section, “many days it was difficult to leave the present behind and slip into Regency England to spend time with Elizabeth and Darcy-but once there, it was like entertaining the home of old friends.” Jane Austen, who lived from 1775 to 1817, was one of the most widely read writers in English literature. She wrote Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, and Emma. Northanger Abbey and Persuasion were published post humously. Bebris is a longtime member of the Jane Austen Society of North America which is dedicated to the appreciation of the works of Austen. Bebris also has taken research trips to England to enhance her understanding of Austen’s life. She has won several awards for her books including the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association bestseller list for Pride and Prescience. It was also named as one of the five best mysteries of 2004 by Library Journal. North by Northanger won the 2007 Daphne du Maurier Award and a Reviewers Choice Award for Best Historical Mystery of the year. Bebris writes articles for Jane Austen’s Regency World magazine and other nonfiction. She is also on the faculty of the Antioch Writers’ Workshop in Yellow Springs. Picking up where Jane Austen left off, Bebris will delight those who come out for this special author program as she gives her presentation that will be followed by a book signing sponsored by Waldenbooks.
