Summary: Holmes County Veterans Service Center honors Vietnam Veterans with a special, Welcome Home program with speakers, music and a chance to share memories with the brave Veterans that served their nation. The public is invited to attend the May 26 program.
Holmes County Veterans Service Center presents, Welcome Home, Honoring Those Who Served, a special program honoring Vietnam veterans, May 26 at 6:00p.m. in the West Holmes High School Auditorium. The program is open to the public.
The program will be a Welcome Home ceremony for all Vietnam Veterans. All veterans from any era are encouraged to come. The ceremony will include two Vietnam Veteran speakers. Music will be performed by the East and West Holmes choirs, and a special presentation by Judge Robert Rinfret and Jason Brooks, Holmes County Veterans Service Office Director. The Holmes County Veterans Service Commission will assist with the dedication at the end of the program.
Refreshments will be served after the program.
Although not an annual event, last year Holmes County Veterans Service honored WWII and Korean Veterans with a ceremony. I believe that its the least we could do for the Veterans of our county, said Brooks.
The program is open to anyone that would like to attend whether they are Veterans or not, said Brooks. We would like to have all Veterans bring their families to share in this program. Children are more than welcome to come, we want them to realize that these are heroes that live within our community and should be recognized for it.
People need to realize that heroes are not just on TV, or athletes, or in movies. They are in the form of Veterans. They are relatives, teachers, friends, and all should be commended for the sacrifices and time given to protect our nation. Whether they have served in peacetime or war, Veterans should always be recognized as our nations most precious natural resource, said Brooks.
Veterans are encouraged to bring in photos or mementos to share with others. We would like for any Vietnam Veteran to bring in pictures, mementos, or anything else they would like to share with the other Veterans in attendance. We will have tables in the lunchroom for the Veterans to place their mementos to share with everyone, said Brooks.
The Holmes County Veterans Service Commission provides comprehensive support services to Holmes County residents who have served in any branch of the military. Veterans and their families who demonstrate need may receive free financial assistance, transportation to VA medical facilities in Canton, Brecksville, and Wade Park, as well as coordination and processing help with Veterans Administration claims and benefits.
