Students interested in a nursing career are invited to take part in one of the upcoming Nursing Career Exploration sessions at Union Hospital. The next several programs are scheduled for Jan. 12, Feb. 9, and March 9, 2011. The Nursing Career Exploration program gives students an introduction to a nursing career with behind-the-scenes visits to nursing units in the hospital. The day begins with a briefing about patient privacy, confidentiality, and infection control issues. The program is coordinated by Tammy Keating, RN, a member of the Union Hospital community health and wellness staff. Depending on student interests and patient activity, the students will visit several of the hospital’s nursing units, including medical, surgical, ICU/Stepdown, maternity, emergency, and pediatrics. Students should arrive at the hospital by 9 a.m. for orientation and the tour. The program will conclude with lunch at noon. Each session is limited to eight students and advance registration is required. High school or college students interested in participating should call the hospital’s community relations office at 330-602-0778.
