Learning to love the skin you are in

Your skin says a lot about you. It gives the observer an impression of your age, health, sun exposure and genetics. It is your body’s largest organ. And despite its importance in protecting us from harmful bacteria, your skin may be neglected and even abused. The next Take Charge of Your Health Program from the Union Hospital Community Health and Wellness Department will focus on skin care, health and beauty. The guest speaker will be Chinyere Orafu, M.D., head of the OB/GYN medical staff at Union Hospital and medical director of the Ohio Laser and Wellness Centers. Dr. Orafu will share the latest medical technologies in skin care, including treatments and methods to repair damaged skin and provide a more youthful appearance. Dr. Orafu describes the event as an entertaining “ladies night out” for women to learn more about their skin health and beauty. “This evening will be geared towards women of all ages and will be both fun and educational,” Dr. Orafu said. “Ladies will learn about some of the state-of-the-art skin treatments available and have the chance to experience them firsthand.” This program will take place Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m., in the Union Hospital Rosenberry Conference Room. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited and registration is required. To register, call the UH Community Relations office at 330-602-0778, or register on line at www.unionhospital.org. Pam Dummermuth, UH wellness coordinator, agreed that Dr. Orafu’s program will be fun, informative, and a good time for women to focus on their own health interests. “Women often take care of everyone else first and leave little time for themselves,” Dummermuth said. “This program is an opportunity for women to take some time to learn about skin health and enjoy the evening.” In addition to Dr. Orafu’s presentation, exhibitors will demonstrate some of the latest skin care technology and techniques, nutrition, fitness, and beauty treatments.
