After more than a year of providing mostly telehealth medical appointments, the Tuscarawas County Health Department plans to re-open its in-person medical services on Thursday, June 3 for primary medical care needs such as the diagnosis of a new illness and routine care for chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD and more.

Following the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control for healthcare settings, all patients will be required to wear masks, and TCHD staff will continue following safety protocols for rigorous cleaning. Additionally, patients with COVID-19 symptoms will not be seen inside the building and will be asked to schedule a drive-up appointment for COVID-19 testing.

“With the decline in local active COVID-19 cases and the Ohio Department of Health orders set to expire on June 2, we felt this was a good time to restore our in-person medical appointments,” said Amy Kaser, TCHD director of nursing. “We are taking all recommended precautions to protect the health of every patient who walks through our doors, and we will continue to have socially distanced seating in our waiting area to reduce exposure risk.

“We know that many people have postponed seeing a medical provider during the pandemic, and we encourage everyone to schedule an annual wellness check-up to ensure they are meeting their health goals. We look forward to seeing our patients again, and we welcome new patients of all ages for primary medical care, wellness visits, vaccinations, sports physicals and more.”

TCHD’s medical providers include Dr. Daniel Blumer and Alexandra Miller, certified nurse practitioner. Most insurances are accepted including Medicare and Medicaid, and a sliding-fee scale is available for those who are income-eligible. To schedule a medical appointment at TCHD, call 330-343-5555 ext. 174 or 181 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
