According to the Center of Disease Control, drowning is the second leading cause of death from unintentional injuries for youth ages 5 to 24. In an effort to save lives, Tuscora Park Pool encourages the community to get prepared. Tuscora Park will hold Learn to Swim and Water Safety registration May 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as each Saturday in May from 10 a.m. to noon and each Sunday in May from 1-3 p.m. Cash will be the only form of payment accepted. Learn to Swim sessions will run from July 8-19 and July 22-August 2 at Tuscora Park Pool. The program is taught by authorized American Red Cross instructors through Tuscora Park. It is a two-week program designed to help children, ages 5 and older, to improve their swimming skills and the confidence they have in themselves. The Lifeguarding course is set to be held Monday-Saturday, June 3-15 at Tuscora Park Pool, from 8-11:30 a.m. To enroll, participants must be at least 15 years of age before the last scheduled class session and pass the skills evaluation, which will take place on the first water day of class.
