Walnut Hills Retirement Community in Walnut Creek will offer several opportunities for interested individuals to see homes in its two independent living communities at open houses in March.

Walnut Hills will host open houses each Thursday in March from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We currently have a couple of independent living homes that have been renovated and are available for us to show,” said Teresa Yoder, director of independent living at Walnut Hills. “The open houses in March are a great opportunity to see the homes up close and in person and to get a better feel for the communities and what independent living at Walnut Hills is all about.”

Walnut Hills began offering an independent living option in 1989, when the first homes in The Commons were built. The second independent living option, The Meadows, opened in 2004. The 110-acre Walnut Hills campus now has 82 homes for individuals age 55 and over.

The Commons community is designed to meet the needs of individuals in a neighborhood setting that allows them to live independently but still enjoy the security and convenience of many programs and services available on the Walnut Hills campus.

The Meadows community is designed to provide affordable, purposeful retirement living in a scenic setting. Located in a rolling meadow, The Meadows has a private entrance from a township road and the main Walnut Hills campus, so the homes offer an independent living opportunity with help nearby if it’s needed.

“One of the great things about both independent living options at Walnut Hills is that they are part of our continuing care campus,” Yoder said. “And that means if an independent living resident has a health change or needs additional care or assistance, they can receive it right here on our campus from team members they are familiar and comfortable with.”

Another advantage to the independent living option at Walnut Hills is the maintenance-free lifestyle it allows for older individuals.

“Our team takes care of all the lawn mowing, snow removal and maintenance on supplied appliances, as well as maintenance of the roof, the furnace, the hot water heater and more,” Yoder said. “With Walnut Hills taking care of all of those things, our residents have time to travel, volunteer, focus on hobbies or other things they enjoy.”

Walnut Hills was recently recognized by Newsweek as an America’s Best Continuing Care Retirement Community.

Anyone interested in seeing a home in The Commons and/or The Meadows can stop in at Walnut Hills any Thursday in March between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Walnut Hills team members will be available to answer questions, and yellow and green open house signs will be posted to direct visitors to the open homes.

Walnut Hills is located on Olde Pump Street in Walnut Creek. For more information call 330-893-3200.
