Resident disapproves of alcohol sales request
Letter to the Editor:
Alcohol sales in Walnut Creek? Yes, this is the very issue that voters in Walnut Creek Township will see on their ballots on Nov. 7.
The Wallhouse Hotel has petitioned for a D-2 liquor permit for “the sale of wine and mixed beverages” to authorize “on/off premise sales of wine and mixed beverages,” as stated in the language of the petition.
One wonders how allowing a business and its owners to attempt to bolster profits by selling alcohol would improve the lives of our area families. We cannot be short-sighted. Looking into the future, how many other businesses, owned by investors outside or inside our community, will push hard for the domino effect to establish their own alcohol sales in gas stations, restaurants or even bars?
All five townships in East Holmes together have maintained the clear values and safe atmosphere that characterize our area. Introducing the sale of alcohol to Walnut Creek Township is a significant and questionable change.
We are clearly at a crossroads. A decision to begin alcohol sales is a choice very difficult to undo in the future.
The best and most effective course of action for the benefit of our community is for Walnut Creek voters to go to the polls and vote “no” to the alcohol sales issue this Tuesday, Nov. 7.
