Letter to the Editor

To the Editor: This letter is in support of Latecia Wiles for probate and juvenile judge for Wayne County. Having worked with her when she was assistant prosecutor and now as judge, I know Judge Wiles’ compassion for children and families. When she saw the need for guardians for the mentally incompetent, who had no family to speak for them in court, Latecia Wiles worked with Judge Leisy to set up the Wayne County Volunteer Guardianship Program. Latecia Wiles sought grants for the program and helped train the volunteers. Judge Wiles currently serves as a volunteer on their board of trustees. As a prosecutor, Latecia Wiles did civil work for the commissioners, and I could always count on her opinions to be thoroughly researched and well written. I am sure this is why she was the first prosecutor in the state to be certified as an appellate law specialist by the Ohio Bar Association. While she was a prosecutor, Judge Wiles had over 400 cases of child and elder abuse assigned to her. Besides probate and juvenile court experience, she has also served as an advisor to Children Services, Job and Family Services and others. I know firsthand the hard work and dedication that Latecia Wiles brings to her job as judge. With an ever rising number of juvenile cases, Judge Wiles has an extremely full docket; but she still had time to institute new technology in the court, pursue grants and partner with other elected officials and organizations for the betterment of Wayne County’s children. Please join me in voting to keep Latecia Wiles, a dedicated public servant, Wayne County’s Probate and Juvenile Judge. Ann M. Obrecht Wayne County Commissioner
