The Chautauqua Book Club at the Dover Public Library has announced its schedule of upcoming discussion titles and dates.

The group will meet next on Thursday, Jan. 31 at noon in the board room of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St.

The title to be discussed will be "Educated," a memoir by Tara Westover. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education and no one to intervene when one of Westover’s older brothers became violent.

When another brother got himself into college, Westover decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home.

Founded in 1878 at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York, the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle is one of the oldest continuous book discussion groups in the United States. Each month at the Dover Public Library a different title is selected and discussed. New members are always welcome.

Upcoming discussion titles and dates are as follows: "Educated," a memoir by Tara Westover, Jan. 31; "The Ensemble," a novel by Aja Gabel, Feb. 28; "There Will Be No Miracles Here," a memoir by Casey Gerald, March 28; "The Hidden Life of Trees" by Peter Wohlleben, April 25; and "Salt Houses," a novel by Hala Alvan, May 30.
