Loudonville Village Council met for a regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 5 in the Village Council Chambers.

Several items of note took place during the meeting.

Confirmation of
appointment

Council approved a motion to confirm Mayor Jason Van Sickle’s appointments of Brian McCauley to Chief of Police and Sean Gorrell to Police Captain. An oath of office was then given to McCauley and Gorrell.

Proclamation for retired police chief

Van Sickle expressed his appreciation to retired Police Chief Kevin Taylor for his years of service to the village and presented a proclamation to Taylor, resolving that a copy be placed upon the official records.

Maintenance
department vehicle replacement

Village administrator Garret DeWitt said the maintenance department had requested a new vehicle, noting it was included in the 2024 tax budget. He said Village Street Superintendent Jarrod Heffelfinger was advised that even if the vehicle is ordered this year from Bill Harris Ford in Loudonville, it would not be delivered until after February or March.

He said Heffelfinger found a new 2023 unit from Liberty Ford in Brunswick that is available immediately and asked council to consider increasing the appropriations in the funds to purchase the truck this year (SCMR, state highway, storm drainage funds).

Council then approved a motion to approve the purchase of a truck this year.

Water meter
replacement project

DeWitt said they are still waiting on parts, noting they have received about 60% of the project materials.

Pavement sealant —
Market Street

DeWitt reported that a purchase order is in place for the sealant application, noting he has contacted the contractor to check on the project but has not received a response.

Utility rate increase

Councilwoman Hollie McCauley reported that the Council Utilities Committee met to discuss water rates. She said the committee will meet again on Sept. 18 to further discuss a proposal for council consideration.

Riverside Park parking
lot improvements

DeWitt reported that the quote received was double the budgeted estimate of $7,000, noting he was working to obtain additional quotes.

Legislation

Council approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor and fiscal officer to enter a memorandum of understanding with the Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village School District for the provision of a school resource officer and declared an emergency.
