Millersburg Village Council held a regular meeting in the Council Chambers on Jan. 8.

Several items of note took place during the meeting.

Mayor’s office hours

Mayor Kelly Hoffee said she will hold office hours each Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 p.m. Residents are encouraged to stop in or call to talk with her during those times.

Council president elected

Council approved a motion to elect Brad Conn as council president for 2024.

Holmes County and Millersburg Bicentennial Celebration

Melissa Patrick, chairperson of the bicentennial celebration committee, said the celebration will be held over one year from July 2024 to July 2025. She said the committee would like to involve each of Holmes County’s villages in the celebration. She said because the village of Millersburg was founded in 1825, the committee would like to welcome Millersburg to celebrate its bicentennial alongside Holmes County in 2025, as it did in 1925 for the centennial celebration.

Wooster Road speed study

Village administrator Nate Troyer said Carpenter Marty is preparing a fee proposal for the speed study on Wooster Road. Troyer said the village also confirmed with the county that it can utilize its share of the permissive tax funds for this study. The cost will not exceed $7,200. Troyer said he will reach out to another company, MasterMind Traffic, for a quote.

Deer Run Park

Troyer said Totally Outdoors has begun the prep work for the artificial turf installation. He said Totally Outdoors found there wasn’t sufficient material in place for the base, so it is performing that and adding additional steps to prevent trip hazards.

2024 resurfacing

Troyer said the village has the plans and estimate done for the 2023 project that will be completed this year. He said the only change is there is not enough money to complete everything based on the estimate, so he recommended the village revise the plans to include the reconstruction of the East Jones/Wooster Road intersection, Glen Drive striping and resurfacing of Oak Hill Cemetery but not include the South Monroe curb installation.

He said assuming everyone was OK with that, the village could get the bid advertised and get a bid opening scheduled for some time in late February/early March.

Streetlight expansion

Council member Brent Hofstetter asked Troyer about extending streetlights on East Jones Street. Troyer said he would look into extending streetlights on all streets to extend to the corporation limits. Troyer said the only cost to the village should be the additional costs on its monthly electric service billings.

2024 committee appointments

Hoffee presented council with her committee appointments for 2024. She said a complete record of committee members and chairman/chairwoman can be found at Village Hall.

Hoffee introduced some new committee members: Jon McFarland will serve on both the design review board and the planning and zoning board, Mike Uhl will serve on the design review board, Janie Tish and Beth Martin Logan will serve on the tree city board, and Brett Gallion will serve on the planning and zoning board.

All council members then voted yes on a motion to approve Hoffee’s committee appointments.

Hoffee said committee meeting minutes should be recorded by a designated committee member. Minutes will then be discussed at the following regular council meeting so they can be recorded as part of that council meeting’s minutes.
