Philharmonic’s season opens with Classical Mystery Tour
The Tuscarawas Philharmonic’s 2018 season will open on Saturday, Oct. 13 with the Classical Mystery Tour, a special concert to honor Kent State Tuscarawas, which was founded 50 years ago when the music of the Beatles was all the rage.
Classical Mystery Tour will feature Jim Owen as John Lennon on rhythm guitar, piano and vocals; Tony Kishman as Paul McCartney on bass guitar, piano and vocals; Tom Teeley as George Harrison on lead guitar and vocals; and Chris Camilleri as Ringo Starr on drums and vocals.
The four musicians look and sound like the Beatles, and the show will present some 26 Beatles tunes performed exactly as they were written, accompanied by the full Tuscarawas Philharmonic orchestra. The first of many classics will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.
A silent auction will be held at 6:30 p.m., featuring six local artists and their Beatles-inspired creations.
Sara Dittfeld, art educator at Indian Valley High School and secretary/board member of Tuscarawas Arts Partnership, will showcase her piece, “Here Comes the Sun.”
Sarah Dugger, founder and CPA of Mr. McGullicutty Art Studios in Dover, will present her piece, “HELP.”
Jessica Haney, a local tattoo artist who specializes in corrective and permanent cosmetics tattoo artistry, will have her piece, “Dark Yellow,” on display.
Wilma Levengood, executive director of the Tuscarawas Arts Partnership, will display “Can We Imagine.”
Richard Oboczky, graduate of the Cooper Art Institute and former Gradall technical illustrator, will have his work, “Penny Lane,” on display.
Peggy Sibila’s “Blackbird” is a product of her self-taught art skills and ability to work in all mediums including clay.
Tickets for the concert are available at the Tuscarawas Philharmonic website at www.tuscarawasphilharmonic.org or by calling the Performing Arts Center box office at 330-308-6400.
