Apancake breakfast fundraiser will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 of Valentine’s Day weekend from 8-11 a.m. to benefit the New Philadelphia Advancing Community Together organization. New Philadelphia Mayor Joel Day will flip flapjacks at the Tuscora Park Pavilion, along with Service Director Ron McAbier and others.

Tickets are $10 per person, with children age 5 and under free. The breakfast will consist of a variety of pancakes and toppings including fresh fruit, whipped cream and syrup.

Baskets filled with goodies donated by local businesses will be raffled, and a 50/50 drawing will be held.

The Tuscarawas County Main Library also will be there with a Valentine craft workshop for kids.

What is NPact?

NPact is an organization formed after the New Philadelphia Business and Community Association folded following the pandemic.

Jim Knisely, chairman of the eight-member NPact board, said the group’s goals are to foster a vibrant community that’s welcoming to citizens, businesses and visitors.

The way the organization intends to do that is by partnering with the city to direct projects that will enhance the community and raise funds for local initiatives, events and community development projects.

Knisely said, “As we try to bring events to downtown, it all costs money. You’ve got to pay for trash collection, renting tables and chairs and tents, for instance. And you’re not necessarily looking to make money at the events. You’re doing it to benefit the community.”

Knisely also pointed to the need for volunteers to pull off successful downtown events, and NPact is actively looking for people who’d like to help.

“There will be someone at the breakfast with information about NPact and to share opportunities to donate some time helping us with different events,” Knisely said.

Knisely recognized support from the city is integral in getting projects off the ground and is happy to see the mayor and others volunteering for the breakfast fundraiser.

“Mayor Day has been a good guy to work with,” Knisely said. “He comes to all the NPact meetings, is aware of what we’re trying to do and is very supportive. Of course, city council gets to call the shots, and they’ve also been agreeable to our goals. It just takes a while.”
