Zoar leads way in new museum association
Historic Zoar Village has taken the lead in the creation of a museum and historical society association in Tuscarawas County.
Historic Zoar Village has taken the lead in the creation of a museum and historical society association in Tuscarawas County. Tammi Shrum, site director of Historic Zoar Village, is the president of the association.
“The Museum Association is a place where local museums and historical sites can collaborate to better help each other and our communities learn more about our county’s fascinating history,” Shrum said. “We hope to see the association continue to flourish, especially as we lead up to America’s 250th anniversary.”
“The Ernest Warther Museum & Gardens is excited about being a part of the Tuscarawas County Museum Association. We are so thankful to Tammi for bringing us all together, and we have already made great strides in a short period of time,” said Kristen Harmon, director of Ernest Warther Museum & Gardens. “This organization will not only make our museums better, but ultimately make better experiences for the people in our community.”
Current members of the association include Historic Zoar Village, Fort Laurens Museum, Ernest Warther Museum & Gardens, Schoenbrunn Village, Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum, Tuscarawas County Historical Society, Dennison Depot Railroad Museum, Reeves Museum, Alpine Hills Museum, Famous Endings Museum and Bolivar Area Historical Society.
“As a member of the Tuscarawas County Museum Association, I have the invaluable opportunity to collaborate with fellow museums, share programs, and strengthen our collective mission of preserving and promoting our county’s rich history,” said Tanner Immel, site manager of Schoenbrunn Village.
The association will meet quarterly at Tuscarawas County Historical Society. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. All Tuscarawas County museums and historical societies are welcome to join.
