Clara Hostetler, age 88, of Hartville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021.

She was living at Hennis Care Center of Bolivar for the past five-and-a-half years.

She was born in Orrville on Dec. 16, 1932, to the late Dan and Alta (Hostetler) Schlabach. She lived in Hartville the majority of her life. She was an active member of the Hartville Mennonite Church (Evermore Community) where she enjoyed being a part of the sewing circle, the food committee, the choir, and she taught Sunday School for the children, as well as the adult women’s class for many years. She especially loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She worked at Schumacher Lumber as an IBM keypunch operator and various jobs throughout her life. In 1975, with only a fourth-grade education, she went back to school and obtained her GED and then went on to graduate from Kent State/Stark College to become a registered nurse. She worked at Aultman Hospital, the V.A. Hospital in Brecksville and many years at Massillon State Hospital where she worked as a psychiatric nurse. She loved quilting, playing the German accordion and cooking big meals for family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Clarence in 2017; brothers Eli, Calvin and Daniel Schlabach; and two sisters, Sara Hostetler and Betty Smith. She is survived by her children, Lana Turner, Sharon (Dana) Grieser, and Donald (Sherry) Hostetler; five grandchildren, Charles (Kim) Grieser, Tara (Jeremy) Bowers, Seth (Lorie) Turner, Darrell (Kim) Grieser, and Dominic Hostetler; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ryan, and Emily Bowers, Jordan and Ezra Turner, Karley, Hudson and Brady Grieser, Hunter and Isabella Grieser, and Dominic, Maddox and Xander Hostetler.

She is also survived by five siblings, Chris Schlabach, Wayne (Priscilla) Schlabach, Vernon (Toni) Schlabach, John (Charlotte) Schlabach, and Alta (Paul) Rohrer; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 12, at Evermore Community Church , located at 1470 Smith Kramer St., Hartville, with Pastors Ross Miller and Butch Nisly officiating. A graveside committal service was held Saturday, Nov. 13, at the church cemetery.
