Frances “Joanne” Vincent, 77, formerly of Holmesville, died Feb. 11, 2010, at Sycamore Run, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Joanne was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Moreland, to the late Arthur Edward Bucher and Evelyn Bucher. She graduated from Holmesville High School in 1950 as valedictorian of her class and worked for Citizen’s National Bank and Bank One, retiring after 40 years. After retirement, she served on the board of directors for the Commercial and Savings Bank in Millersburg. She was clerk of Prairie Township for 16 years. Joanne was a charter member of the Stepping Stone Mothers’ Club and WideView Garden Club in Holmesville. She played the organ and piano at Holmesville Federated Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also very involved in the United Methodist Women organization. She was a high energy individual when it came to taking care of her family or her community and never met a stranger. She was twice named Citizen of the Year in Holmesville for her many contributions to the village, sharing the honor once with her husband, Bill, and once with her longtime Holmesville friend, Myrna Woodruff. Joanne was an avid sports fan, and faithfully followed her husband, son, and grandchildren as they played baseball, basketball, football, softball, and volleyball. She seldom saw an umpire or referee she agreed with. Surviving are her son, Jeff (Judy) Vincent of Wooster; four grandchildren, Jay Vincent of Yosemite National Park, Calif., Jordan Vincent of Athens, Chad (Adrienne) Karlen of Smithville, and Stephanie Carmean of Wooster; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Melvin and Faith and Brooke Karlen, all of Smithville, and Anthony Carmean of Wooster; brother, Art (Doris) Bucher of Wooster; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Baldwin of Orrville and Thelda Vincent of Holmesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy D. Vincent, whom she married in 1951; and her very dear Auntie Ope and Uncle Ed Jolliff. Services will be held Feb. 16, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Holmesville Methodist Church, with Randy Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville. Calling hours will be Feb. 15, from 4-7 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Holmesville Methodist Church.
