Glen I. Lautenschleger, 72, of Strasburg, died April 11, 2010, at Union Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Glen was born May 26, 1937, in Coshocton County, to the late Floyd and Esta Lautenschleger. He was a fixture in the village of Strasburg, where he owned and operated Glens Service Center on Wooster Avenue for 31 years. Following retirement, he was an employee of Newton Asphalt for 16 years. He could often be identified in town as the guy with the hat running up and down the street to the parts store, the fire department, or the post office. There are many adjectives to describe Glen including friendly, outgoing, helpful, full of energy, cheerful, and always smiling to name a few. He was a friend to everyone who knew him.
Glen was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Strasburg, where he served many years on church council and the choir and on numerous committees within the church. He also served the community of Strasburg as a firefighter and EMT for the Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years. He was a 1955 graduate of Baltic High School and a member of Dover Moose Lodge 707 and West Lafayette Masonic Lodge 602. His grandchildren will remember him for his many stories and the love he had for each of them. He also believed in helping others by donating many gallons of blood over the years.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Lautenschleger, whom he married in 1956; sons, Rick (Steph) Lautenschleger of Strasburg, Steve (Sharon) Lautenschleger of Tijeras, N.M., and David (Susan) Lautenschleger of Strasburg; five grandchildren, Heather, T.J. (friend, Megan), Julianna, Josie, and Aleca; siblings, Kathryn Lautenschleger of Baltic, Mary Lou (Dean) Huprich of Cambridge, Erma Mae (Glenn) Lorenz of Coshocton, Roland Lautenschleger of Kentucky, and Jake (Lois) Lautenschleger and Rich (Louise) Lautenschleger, both of Baltic; sister-in-law, Marlene Lautenschleger of Baltic; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Jr.; sister-in-law, Donna Jean Lautenschleger; and a nephew.
At Glens request, cremation will take place and inurnment will be held at a later date in Halifax Cemetery, Coshocton County. Services will be held April 14, 2010, at 6 p.m., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Strasburg, with Pastor Steven Woyen officiating. The Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department will honor Glen by hosting a reception at the fire station following services. Friends will be received at the church from 3-6 p.m.
