Forrest J. Kandel, 81, of Millersburg, died April 24, 2010, at his home, following a sudden illness. Forrest was born August 24, 1928, in Holmes County, to the late Joe and Lydia Kandel. He was a farmer and a self-employed trucker, and was also a Berlin Township trustee. A charter member of Grace Mennonite Church, he was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1952. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Kandel, whom he married in 1950; children, Richard (Rebecca) Kandel of Millersburg, Jean (Arlen) Hostetler of Smithville, and Jane (Jim) Martin of Millersburg; five grandchildren, Matt (Katherine) Martin of Meadowlakes, Texas, Erin (Ben) Rogers of Jeromesville, Jill Martin, Kent Hostetler, and Jared Hostetler; a great-grandchild, Tessa Martin; sisters, Mary Troyer of Millersburg and Ethel (Clarence) Miller of Orrville; brother, Clifford (Joan) Kandel of Millersburg; and sister-in-law, Mary (Eli) Kandel of Berlin. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward; brothers, Clayton and Robert; and sister, Fern Miller. Services will be held April 28, 2010, at 10 a.m., at Grace Mennonite Church, with Pastor Larry Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Grace Mennonite Church Cemetery, with military rites being conducted by the Killbuck VFW. Friends may call April 27, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Grace Mennonite Church.
