Raymond R. “Sonny” Hill
Raymond R. “Sonny” Hill, age 84 of New Philadelphia, died Monday, June 18, 2018, in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Elmer and Ida (Wolf) Hill, Sonny was born May 10, 1934, in Newcomerstown.
Sonny was a veteran of the United States Army. He was active with area V.F.W. posts and was past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6th District.
Sonny was formerly employed at Marlite and also was the longtime owner and operator of Maurer’s Grill at New Philadelphia.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol (Shaler) Hill; a daughter, Rayla Hill; his grandchildren, Jackie (Marc) Zorzi, Donnie (Steve Fito) Dennison, LaRay (Harry) Kakanuru, Wendell Barr and Keith (Keri) Hill; his great-grandchildren, Zack and Ivy Hill, Olivia and Logan Williams, and Alexia, Nick and Liam Kakanuru; a sister, Nancy Cochran; his dog, Mickey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jack Hill; a daughter, Davetta Hill; seven sisters; and his dog, Max.
In keeping with Sonny’s wishes, there will be no calling hours, and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial service will be held at Maurer’s Grill at a later date.
