Rhoda Y. Jenkins
Rhoda Y. Jenkins, age 90 of New Philadelphia, died July 30, 2018, in the Community Hospice Truman House.
Born in New Philadelphia on April 14, 1928, Rhoda was the daughter of the late John McKinley and Edith (Griffith) Light.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, where Rhoda was a cheerleader, she married her lifelong friend and companion, the late Laverne Buster “Bup” Jenkins, the captain of the Dover Tornadoes football team.
Bup and Rhoda were blessed with the birth of three sons who reflect what she instilled in them: work ethic, integrity and a caring heart. When Rhoda and Bup joined the dance floor on Saturday evenings, they captured the attention of those around them. Rhoda also bowled for 50 years and was a talented quilt maker and seamstress. She made many of her own clothes. Additionally she walked or rode her bicycle every day.
Rhoda will be deeply missed by her sons, Daniel “Dan” (Tonya) Jenkins of New Philadelphia, Robert “Bob” (Joe LeGrand) Jenkins of St. Petersburg, Florida and Richard (Cynthia) Jenkins of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Jeremy (Dusty) Jenkins of South Carolina, Jason (Larissa) Jenkins and Matthew Jenkins, both of New Philadelphia, Aaron Jenkins of San Francisco, Keri (Duke) Dailey of Nashport, Ohio, Michael Fisher of Moundsville, West Virginia, Matthew Fisher of Dover, and Nathan Fisher of New Philadelphia; her brother, Dr. John (Roxanne) Light of Columbus; and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rhoda was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeremy Fisher, and her brother and sister-in-law, George and Opal Light.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, Aug. 2 from 5-7 p.m. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Aug. 3, beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service, where a luncheon will be held.
