Sam Wenger, Jr.
Sam Wenger, Jr., age 91 of Wooster, formerly of Orrville, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at Brookdale Place of Wooster, following a long period of declining health.
Sam was born July 9, 1927, in Massillon to the late Samuel and Clara (Amstutz) Wenger and attended Dalton High School. He married Velma Burckhart on March 27, 1949, in Orrville. Velma died Aug. 19, 1990. He later married Mary Jane (Burkholder) Amstutz on Oct. 4, 1992, in Orrville. Mary Jane died Jan. 2, 2018.
Sam was a self-employed farmer and electrician for over 35 years.
Sam was a member of Orrville Christian Church. He loved reading, traveling, spending time on his farm doing little odds-and-ends jobs, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis (Nelson) Wenger of Dalton; three sons, Rich (Sara ) Wenger of Boston, Massachusetts, Dean (Theresa Lubke) Wenger of Marion and Glenn Wenger of Apple Creek; three step sons, Dale (Linda) Amstutz of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, Larry D. (Kathy) Amstutz of Orrville and Steve (Jan) Amstutz of Dalton; step daughter, Sue (David) Jones of Rock Hill, South Carolina; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Steiner of Dalton.
In addition to his parents and wives, Sam was preceded in death by brothers, Leroy, Willis and Ward Wenger; sisters, Ruth Huntsberger and Wilma Malcom; and a great-grandchild, Aaron Samuel Wenger.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at Orrville Christian Church, 925 N. Elm St., Orrville, with Pastor Tom Ledford officiating. Burial will take place at Martins Mennonite Cemetery in Orrville.
Friends may call on Tuesday at Auble Funeral Home, 512 E. Oak St., Orrville, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
