In its inaugural season, the Rockets Unified softball team punched its ticket to the Special Olympics Ohio state softball tournament by defeating two Summit County teams 20-0 and 20-10.

Aaron Kuntzman went the distance on the mound for the Rockets while Matthew Medley scored six runs — three of those in-the-park homeruns — for the Rockets. Patrick Dillon and Cage Miller each scored five times for the champions.

Team members are Alex Adkins, Gary Calkins, Shawn Ciekanski, Easton Dillon, Patrick Dillon, Rylee Dillon, Steve Hazelip, Deric Johnson, Aaron Kuntzman, Matthew Medley, Cage Miller and Zach Niven.

Also in action was the Rockets traditional softball team. The team consists of a mixture of rookie and veteran players. The team fell short in its game against Stark County DD Special Olympics, who went on to capture the regional championship.

Andrew “Junior” Malachin went the distance on the mound, with relief being provided by Chris Daniska during the last inning of the game. Cayden Ciekanski and Malachin led the team offensively while Aidan McClain provided a strong effort defensively, being part of almost 50% of the outs secured by the Rockets.

Team members include Heather Baker, Cayden Ciekanski, Chris Daniska, Joey Fulton, Kitanna Levengood, Andrew Malachin Jr., Samantha Mastroine, Aidan McClain, Miranda Milburn, Jason Murray Jr., Katie Ross, Rachael Russell, Kelcie Williamson and Logan Wise.

The team is coached by Shawn and Missy Ciekanski and Patrick Dillon.

State tournaments will be held at Sandusky Sports Park on Sept. 10.
