Watching the visiting Lady Hornets prepare for their Wednesday, Jan. 13, clash with the Lady Hawks, one got a sense of how the Christians must have felt as they awaited their turn in the arena with the lions. Hilary Weaver played as ferociously as a lion, shredding the Malvern defense for 10 field goals, including four 3-pointers, on her way to 27 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and six steals in leading Hiland to an 87-19 thrashing of the Hornets. The senior guard had plenty of help in exterminating the Hornets. Noelle Yoder turned all of her four steals into uncontested layups on her way to 18 points. Regan Miller found her range, scoring 13 points, including a 3-pointer. Hiland had 10 different players score in the romp. McKenzie Miller finished with eight points. Hannah Stoneman, Megan Hall, Rahel Stange and Katelyn Stuckey each added four points, and Ashley Weaver chipped in three. Arrianna Schrock rounded out the assault with two points. Stuckey was a beast on the boards, yanking down 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Hiland bolted out to a 24-3 lead after the opening eight minutes of action and held a 43-6 advantage at intermission. A 31-4 blitz in the third quarter sealed the deal for the Lady Hawks, who improved their record to 10-0 on the campaign. Hiland hit 8-of-22 shots from beyond the 3-point line, connecting on 35-of-65 overall.
