Wooster High baseball trio signs with Akron
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Wooster High School’s athletic program hosted the first of three signing days scheduled for the school year, with three WHS senior baseball players — Brady Bowen, Ben Winge and Sam Nielsen — all inking letters of intent to attend the University of Akron.
In addition to playing baseball, Bowen, a pitcher-infielder, is a member of the WHS boys basketball program, Student-Athlete Leadership Team and Yearbook Club. As a baseball player, he is a three-time first-team All-Ohio Cardinal Conference selection, three-time Prep Baseball Report All-Ohio honorable mention, three-time all-district selection and OCC Pitcher of the Year. He was a key member of Wooster’s back-to-back district championship teams.
Winge, an infielder, is a member of the WHS Student-Athlete Leadership Team and National Honor Society and enjoys golfing. He also is an honor roll student. As a baseball student-athlete, Winge is a two-year letterwinner, a two-time All-OCC honoree and also was a key member of Wooster’s back-to-back district champion teams.
Nielsen, a first baseman and also a big part of the school’s consecutive district title teams, is a member of Wooster’s National Honor Society and Student-Athlete Leadership Team and enjoys golfing. Nielsen has earned three varsity letters, is a second-team All-OCC honoree and a district honorable mention honoree.
