COW names new coaches for field hockey, men’s tennis
The College of Wooster has a pair of new head coaches entering the 2024-25 academic year.
Shaun Keenan is the 14th men’s tennis head coach in school history, while Lauren Voigt will lead the school’s field hockey program.
Tennis
Keenan takes over for interim head coach Amy Behrman, who led the team to a 9-10 record last year and a quarterfinal berth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
“I am excited to join The College of Wooster and to work with such a talented and enthusiastic group of young men,” Keenan said. “I look forward to building a strong team culture and helping our team fulfill their potential on and off the court.”
“Shaun has a track record of success at the NCAA Division III level from his time at John Carroll University. He is a great fit for The College of Wooster and our department,” said Lynn Holleran, Wooster’s director of athletics and physical education. “We are looking forward to the contributions Shaun will make elevating and enhancing the student-athlete experience of our men’s tennis program and our entire department. I want to thank Amy Behrman for stepping in to lead our men’s tennis program in an interim capacity this spring.”
Keenan brings plenty of Div. III tennis experience to the college, having been the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at John Carroll for 13 years from 2010-22. In his time at John Carroll, he won 11 Ohio Athletic Conference championships and was a five-time OAC Coach of the Year.
In addition, he made 11 NCAA Div. III Championship appearances — six on the men’s side and five on the women’s side. In OAC action he had unbeaten streaks of 61 on the men’s side and 55 on the women’s side.
Field Hockey
Voigt, who has coached field hockey at Elizabethtown College (Pennsylvania) for 11 seasons, begins her Wooster tenure on Aug. 12.
“I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to take over as the head field hockey coach at The College of Wooster,” said Voigt. “I extend my heartfelt thanks to Lynn Holleran, Libby Ladrach, and the entire search committee for this amazing opportunity. Throughout the interview process, I have been deeply impressed by the College, the people, and the team members I met. I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to Wooster’s field hockey program and help the team continue to grow, build on its success, and compete at the next level.”
“We are excited for Lauren to join us at The College of Wooster to lead our field hockey program,” said Holleran. “Lauren is an experienced Div. III coach, with those skills complemented by championship-level play as a student-athlete at national power Messiah University. We are looking forward to the contributions Lauren will make on our student-athlete experience for our field hockey program and our overall department.”
Voigt, who earned a promotion to head coach in 2023, was part of a staff that went 65-44 over her 11 seasons. She helped Elizabethtown to its first Landmark Conference championship in 2016 and an appearance in the NCAA Div. III Championship tournament. Overall, Elizabethtown competed in three conference championship games during Voigt’s tenure.
As a student-athlete, Voigt was part of Messiah’s powerhouse program, which was the national runner-up her junior and senior seasons. The four-time Commonwealth Conference champion set career-highs in goals (five), assists (two), and points (12) as a sophomore.
