Animals are credited for military success
Throughout history, animals of all types have been key to military success.
Acting as beasts of burden, they transported men and supplies to and from battle fields, helped with communications when other means failed; guarded encampments and installations and even served as weapons platforms, producing shock to the enemy.

“The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise” (Psalm 51:17). This comes from one of the penitential psalms found in the psalter. It is attributed to King David as the prayer he makes to God after his infamous sin with Bathsheba and his killing of Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba. David could have acted as if there was nothing wrong with his actions, even though those actions broke up a marriage and led to the killing of one of David’s best and most loyal soldiers. He’s the one with the power and he can do what he wants. Through the help of the prophet Nathan, he realizes that he has done wrong, and it cracks his pride, leaving him with a broken spirit, one that is open to correction and open to the healing action of God.
Farmer’s innovative plan serves community
Hello everyone! Since this Sunday is Father's Day, happy Father's Day to all of you! Randy and I are going to celebrate our dads in our hearts and honor them both sprays of flowers from our yard. For this week I wanted to share a story with you about a man who makes a difference in our world. I asked Melody at our library to help me find some good books to read. This man left me with some food for thought. Joel Salatin is a third generation farmer who works with his family in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley.

Hunting for God
As a priest speaking to people that no longer go to church to pray, I am often told some variation of why they do not need to go to church to pray. They hunt, they fish, they spend time in the wilderness, and in the quiet. It is in these moments that they speak to God. I would not deny them the goodness of what they are saying. Quiet moments out in creation are often wonderful moments in which we can speak to the living God.
