Mothers’ Day audiences will be given a treat during the run of The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County’s presentation of “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club.” On Mothers’ Day, all mothers’ tickets, bought along with a regular ticket, are free. The show will run Fridays through Sundays, April 25 through May 11.

Written by Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, the comedy is about five women whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage, The Sweet Delilah, on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh, take a dip in the ocean and meddle in each other’s lives. The play focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of 33 years as they work through the challenges of men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce and aging.

“This script is part ‘Steel Magnolias,’ part ‘Designing Women’ and a touch of ‘The Golden Girls,’” Artistic Director Don Irvin said. “It is a delightful story that celebrates the strength and beauty of female friendships through laughter, tears and love.”

“The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” has been performed in numerous theaters throughout the world. This is the 20th anniversary of the three playwrights who together have written 26 comedies. Wooten was a writer/producer for many seasons of the classic television series, “The Golden Girls,” where he won the Writers’ Guild of America Award.

Irvin’s veteran cast consists of Cheryl Foutz as Sherry Hollinger, Elizabeth Thomakos as Lexi Richards, Judy Garver as Dinah Grayson, Michele Davis as Vernadette Simms and Jackie Luthy as Jeri Neal McFeeley.

The production team includes Chester Boffo, assistant director; Morgan Mitchell, production stage manager; Joe Compton, scenic and lighting design; Matt Spies, Chelsea Rhodes and Rosemarie Lakota, stage crew; Pam Douglas, props; Elizabeth Thomakos, costume design; Marianne Hughes and Clare Cannizzaro, costume assistants; Seth Rhodes, light board operator; Machelle Miller, sound; Jane Deitrick and Michele Davis, set dressing; Debi DeVore, hair and wigs; Peggy Sibila, painter; Kait Gallagher-Wilsterman, social media; Lee Elliott, publicity; Kathy Bergstrom, poster/show logo design; and Jade Boffo, producer.

Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. with matinees Sundays at 2:30 p.m. All seats are reserved, and tickets may be purchased for $20 at the door or by calling the Kent State University Performing Arts Center Box Office at 330-308-6400.
