Millersburg Tire celebrates 60 years with anniversary party and open house
Millersburg Tire Service has been doing business since 1953, which is before some of their customers were even born. Businesses that last 60 years do so because they are customer conscious and in this day and age it is difficult to find a company that will go the distance.
A celebration is certainly in order for Millersburg Tire and their longtime customers and friends. The 60th Anniversary and Open House begins Thursday, July 25 and runs through Saturday, July 27 with plenty of incentives to bring customers back again and bring new customers in for the first time.
Much has changed in the tire business in 60 years. One thing that has not changed is Millersburg Tire's commitment to the community. The family owned and operated business has earned boasting rights to multiple generations of customers who only buy tires from a company they know they can trust.
Whether you are looking for new tires or simply want to learn more about the services offered, Millersburg Tire's 60th Anniversary and Open House is an opportune time to stop in and meet the staff as well as other customers who have made it possible for this business to thrive in the community.
Premier tire and service provider celebrating 60 years
The first color television set was for sale, the first Corvette hit the showrooms and the first James Bond novel was published in 1953. It was a big year as well for two local men with $10,000 to invest; they took a chance and opened a small service station in Millersburg.
Sheldon Schmucker, along with his brother-in-law, Art Miller, started small and because of an outpouring of community support, their business grew into what is now the region's premier tire and service provider. Millersburg Tire Service celebrates 60 years with an Anniversary Open House and everyone is invited.
"This isn't a party for Millersburg Tire," said second-generation owner Brad Schmucker, Sheldon's son. "It is a party for the people of Holmes County who have made it possible for my family's business to exist today."
The celebration kicks off Thursday, July 25 with complimentary homemade ice cream, popcorn and delicious Lerch's Donuts. The Firestone trailer will be on hand as well as the larger than life mascot, Firehawk.
"We are praying for good weather," said Schmucker. "But we'll take what we can get and find the good in it."
The day promises a live afternoon radio remote with WKLM and a concert from local family favorite John Schmid from 5-7 p.m.
On Friday, customers can expect complimentary refreshments, great entertainment and a chicken barbecue dinner, with all donations benefiting the Love Center and the Haiti Relief Sale.
"We feel strongly about these organizations and hope people support them," said Schmucker. "Holmes County is full of great people who understand how blessed we are."
Live music begins at 6 p.m. with Northwest Territory playing a selection of bluegrass, gospel, country and favorite fiddle tunes.
The party continues on Saturday with a truck show. Registration is from 8-10 a.m., with judging at noon. Truck enthusiasts will enjoy the legendary Dan Patrick Monster Truck, Samson, on display throughout the day. Now retired, Patrick will get in the driver's seat once more and demonstrate the truck's monster crushing technique. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the trademark rippling muscles of the iconic vehicle up close and meet Patrick, a longtime customer of Millersburg Tire Service.
"Some of the employee's eyes got wide as saucers when I joked about Dan crushing their cars," said Schmucker. "We go way back with Dan Patrick and his dad. We've been doing business with them for 40 years. Dan is an intelligent and thoughtful man. He is a skilled driver but also builds trucks that he sends all over the world. We're so happy he is spending the day with us."
The three-day event will include plenty of giveaways and prizes, such as movie passes to the family-friendly DreamWorks feature film, Turbo. A grand prize giveaway winner will take home four Bridgestone Firestone tires for their car, light truck or SUV.
"One of the highlights of the event will be having my dad, Sheldon and my Uncle Art here to celebrate with us," said Schmucker. "My dad is going to be 85 and Uncle Art just turned 90. There are a lot of people in the community who will remember them."
Schmucker became emotional when he spoke of Holmes County and the people that live here. "I've been to 47 of the 50 states and there is no place like Millersburg and Holmes County," said Schmucker. "I would be remiss if I didn't mention how grateful I am for my wife, my son and my daughter. They do so much around here. I just come up with the crazy ideas."
Millersburg Tire Service offers unbeatable service, competitive prices and a large, in-stock selection for car, truck, ATV, lawn and garden and agricultural tire needs, in addition to Bridgestone tires.
