Those anticipating some post-holiday fun can look forward to the upcoming Sisters in Christ Women's Retreat.

The second consecutive event will be Saturday, Jan. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fairlawn Mennonite Church, 8520 Emerson Road, Apple Creek. All area ladies, starting from high school age and up, are invited for a daylong event packed with teaching, breakout classes, giveaways, food and more.

“It's really just a time for women to get together and connect, to have fellowship and draw closer to God,” women’s ministry team member Jenna Bauer said.

Attendees will hear from guest speaker Rachel Risner, a local author and speaker. She will speak on prayer, giving examples of women who prayed throughout the Bible.

Women can pick from one of five breakout sessions in the afternoon. These hour-and-a-half-long topics include coffee, gardening, skincare and beauty, fashion, and women's wellness. Each will offer time for Q-and-A segments.

“The breakouts are more lighthearted after kind of heavier topics and just meant to give a time of fellowship,” Bauer said.

The morning will start with a light breakfast including coffee, fruit, yogurt and muffins. Lunch, provided by Craveably Crafted, will be a grilled cheese bar accompanied by a soup and salad bar. Gluten- and dairy-free options will be available.

There will be a time of music worship at the beginning and end to get retreat-goers in the mood.

Bauer, who attended the first retreat, enjoyed seeing the turnout and commented on the spiritual implications she observed.

“My favorite part is just seeing all the women come together and especially when women from other churches connect,” she said. “It's just such a picture of what the Big C church is.”

Holding the retreat in the winter this year was intentional to get people out of the house while enjoying a relaxing day after the busy holiday season. The first retreat, held in fall 2023, had over 80 women. Organizers hope for a similar or even higher turnout this year.

The age range also is intentional, with an emphasis that high school ladies are welcome.

“We really want to help older and younger women connect,” Bauer said. “It’s one of the rare events that allows high-schoolers and older women to be together at the same time.”

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at tithe.ly/event-registration/#/9487931. The last day to register is Dec. 29. For questions or more information, email office@fmcapplecreek.com or visit www.fmcapplecreek.com.
