The Fort Laurens Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Pro’s Table in New Philadelphia on May 13. Members were thanked for their contribution of cookies and Easter items, which were distributed to veterans in Tuscarawas County nursing facilities. The membership voted to repeat the project in October. Janet Howe displayed and discussed DAR memorabilia, which had been collected by her late aunt, DAR member Charlotte Hill. Patricia Huprich, Lt. Gov. of the Western Reserve Colony of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Ohio, presented a program entitled, The Quest for Freedom – from the Mayflower to the Revolutionary War. Huprich discussed the movement of the Samuel Fuller family from Leiden, Holland, to the New World. Descendants of Dr. Fuller were traced from Massachusetts to Fort Ann, N.Y. By 1819, they had settled in Harrison County, Ohio. The chapter will participate in the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot at Fort Laurens, Bolivar, on July 23 at 11 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution. Following the wreath laying ceremony, the Fort Laurens Chapter of the DAR will hold a picnic at the shelter at Fort Laurens, Bolivar, at noon.
