Holmes County 4-H Shooting Sports Club holds May meeting
                        

The Holmes County 4-H Shooting Sports Club met Saturday, May 10 at the Eastern Holmes Sportsman’s Club.

Vice President Braxton Tish opened the meeting. Lyland Eden led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Tish led the 4-H flag pledge. Reports were given by Secretary Lucas Bailey and Patricia Ann Lang, who delivered the treasurer’s report in the absence of JC Baker.

Members reviewed several announcements, discussed the firearm safety acronym MATTERS and received project books with guidance. Community service projects were outlined including aluminum can and ink cartridge recycling, collecting pop tabs for dialysis patients, donating eyeglasses to the Lions Club, and preparing thank-you recognition for Holmes County veterans.

Members voted to assemble goodie bags and thank-you notes for local veterans, with distribution assistance from the Holmes County Veterans Affairs Office.

Health officer Tish shared a health tip, and members discussed a safety tip on ticks in the absence of safety officer Baker.

Disciplines practiced that day included shotgun, rifle and pistol. Refreshments were provided by the Eden family. The Sammy Miller family will provide refreshments for the June meeting.

President Zander Croskey closed the meeting.

The club’s next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 14 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Eastern Holmes Sportsman’s Club.
