Members of the Helping Others Prepare for Employment (HOPE) Fund Steering Committee met Nov. 10 at The Barn Restaurant in Smithville. Chair Lee Peart updated the committee on Wayne County Community Foundation policies that pertain to the HOPE Fund and gave a current financial report. Continued success was reported on the committee’s two initiatives: 100 percent passage of GED Test Scholarships and 100 percent on-time repayment of emergency gas vouchers. With the completion of the Veterans Day Rotary Parade of Flags, the committee is looking for additional regularly-scheduled work projects so HOPE Fund recipients can pay it forward. Members reviewed the applications of two new steering committee members and voted to submit them to the Wayne County Common Good Board for approval. Order forms for Westminster Presbyterian’s Famous Frozen Soup sale were distributed to the committee. All proceeds are donated to the HOPE Fund for GED test scholarships. Orders may be placed directly with the church office by calling 330-263-2398, with a committee member or online at http://www.hopefundwayne.org. The HOPE Fund is a self-sustaining work and education fund at the Wayne County Community Foundation to support the efforts of the Wayne County Common Good to help community members to get jobs or better jobs by providing pay it forward scholarships and good faith, interest-free loans repaid in cash or service. The steering committee will next meet Wednesday, Dec. 8 at The Barn Restaurant in Smithville.
