NWN Ruritans hold final meeting of 2023
The Northwestern Ruritan Club met Dec. 11 for the Christmas dinner/meeting at Northwestern High School.
President Kim Wellert welcomed members, spouses and special guests including community first responders. The group joined in singing “America,” the invocation was given by Jim Johnson and the ham dinner was served by the school chefs. The Northwestern FFA, advised by Heather Tegtmeier, had Christmas decorations on each table.
Chuck Beck’s treasurer’s report was approved, subject to audit, and Mike Becker agreed to again audit the books for the year 2023.
A check for $2,500 was given to Lt. D.J. Funk of the Town & Country Fire Department of West Salem for the Phillip Wigal Scholarship Fund, used for training firefighters. It was announced an anonymous donor also is giving $2,500 to match the donation, so the total given the Scholarship Fund was $5,000.
Jamie Bowman reported he has received many positive comments about the Parade of Flags that were put out in the community during national holidays and that he appreciated all who assisted with the project. Beck said 25 packages for the Husky Brigade were sent out to soldiers from the area and asked for names and addresses of any soldiers from the area he is not aware of. Appreciation was extended to Bowman (Dec. 2) and Dick Wiley (Dec. 16) for manning the recycling bins.
The NWHS choir, under the direction of Elizabeth Crabtree, then sang several Christmas songs, accompanied on the keyboard by Ben Low, a music student at The College of Wooster. Following the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the dinner/meeting was then adjourned with wishes of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The next dinner/meeting will be Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Northwestern High School. Committees will be given time to meet to make plans for the year, and the director’s meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
