Peter W. Schramm to be guest speaker at County Line Historical Society meeting
Peter W. Schramm, executive director of the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs, will be the guest speaker at the County Line Historical Society meeting June 18, at 1 p.m., at Ken Miller Supply Oil, Gas, Car, Truck and Agriculture Museum. The museum is located just north of Shreve on state Route 226 (7920 Shreve Road). The public and students are invited free of charge. The title of Schramms speech is The U.S. Constitution: Remembering the Foundations of our Public Life. The first 50 people in attendance will receive a free copy of the U.S. Constitution. Schramm is a professor of political science, and also chairman of the Master in American History and Government program at Ashland University.
Prior to his work at Ashland, he served in the Reagan Administration as the director of the Center for International Education in the United States Department of Education. Before entering government service, Schramm was president of the Claremont Institute for the Study of Statesmanship and Political Philosophy and also taught political science at Claremont McKenna College and California State University.
Schramm earned his Ph.D. in government from the Claremont Graduate School in 1980. He holds two Master of Arts degrees, one from Claremont in government and the other in international history from The London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London. He received a B.A. in history from California State University, Northridge.
He has been the recipient of Earhart, Weaver, and Hadden Fellowships and the Honorary Alumnus Award from Ashland University, where he has also received seven Mentor Teaching Awards. He was awarded the Salvatori Prize for American Citizenship by the Heritage Foundation, and the Outstanding American by Choice award by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services. He is president of The Philadelphia Society for 2010-2011. Schramm has also edited, co-edited, and contributed to a number of books.
