Tuscora Stamp Club will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the first Shakers in America during its annual Tuscopex show on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Tuscora Park Pavilion in New Philadelphia. Free parking and admission are available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A set of six different Shaker-related covers will be available for $15. Member Jack Perry designed a cancellation, good for one day, that replicates a photo of a scene from Shaker White Water Village in Harrison, Ohio. The post office will use his design to cancel stamps the day of the show.

Along with free stamps for youth, there will be a 50/50 raffle and a stamp auction at 4 p.m. Weather permitting, a highlight will be Scott Pendleton’s antique mail wagon, originally pulled by horses. Members Dominic Gangale, Perry, Pendleton, Wayne Farley and Tom Zuercher will display stamps from their collections.

Featured dealers include Falls Philatelic, Chagrin Falls; Ohio Hilltop Stamps, Wooster; Lincolnway Stamps, Massillon; John Hickel Stamps, Westerville; Common Rarities, Columbus; A-ONE Covers, Elyria; and Scott Shaulis Stamps, Murrysville, Pennsylvania.

Tuscora Stamp Club meets monthly on the first Wednesday and third Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Activities include educational programs, auctions, displays, show and tell, door prizes, participation in shows, and refreshments. The group holds its yearly show and a hospice auction, and this year it will combine activities with Dover Public Library to celebrate the month of October as National Stamp Collecting Month.

President Steve Worsham said, “Our group has been meeting since 1950. We currently have 35 members from Tuscarawas, Stark, Ashland and Harrison counties. We collect a wide variety of stamps, ranging from U.S. stamps to postal history. Anyone with an interest in stamps, whether they collect or not, is welcome to join our group.”

Tuscora Park is located at 161 Tuscora Ave. NW in New Philadelphia.
