Bev Deviney hosted the September meeting of the Wide View Garden Club and started with a wonderful meal. Her co-hostess was Nola Schlegel. Pat Stocker gave the blessing over the dinner. Twelve members for roll call told many fall memories they had enjoyed over the past. They also told of some skunk, raccoon, and bear memories while they had camped in the past. President Anna Mae Shoemaker mentioned that they are going to have a special plant and flower shower for one of their members who just moved to West Virginia in the spring. Her new home doesn’t have any flowers or nice plants like she had at her past home. The Holmes County meeting was held Oct. 12 at the Killbuck Methodist Church. The regional meeting was held Nov. 11 at Marshallville St. Michael’s Church. For November’s meeting, they will go to Pat Catan’s in Wooster to make wreaths for themselves. Horticulture: Wilma McCurdy talked about controlling slugs. One method was to put chicken grit around the plants. The slugs won’t go over them. Paula Olney won the mystery gift of a beautiful maroon mum planter. New business: The members told of some ideas for programs for the upcoming year. Linda Treap asked the club about her flowers having red aphids and what to do about it. It was suggested that she call OARDC. The club ended the evening with a bulb and plant exchange.
