Area students receive Pork Producers scholarships

                        
Each of the following have been awarded a $500 scholarship for the school year 2010-1011. In past years, the Pork Producers issued six scholarships. This year, because of the large number of applications receive, members voted to increase the number of scholarships to 10. Kaylyn Beavers of Newcomerstown, daughter of Perry and Tracey Beavers, will graduate in 2010 from New Philadelphia High School. Beavers is planning to attend Bowling Green University with a major in supply chain management and a minor in both agriculture business and marketing. She is a 13-year member of the Angel Valley Rosebuds and Rambler 4-H club, where she has taken market hog for nine years, market steer for three years, and dairy for five years. She has also held many offices in her 4-H club. Kayla Hinds of Newcomerstown, daughter of Kevin and Gladys Hinds. She will graduate in 2010 from Newcomerstown High School. Hinds is planning to attend OSU and pursue a degree in agricultural engineering. After completing her engineering degree, she also plans to apply to veterinarian school to become a large animal veterinarian. She is a 10-year 4-H member and has been in junior leaders, junior fair board, and a camp counselor. She is also on the varsity track team and National Honor Society at school. Hannah Miller, daughter of Wynn and Connie Miller of West Lafayette. Miller is a sophomore at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. After completing her degrees in sport management and business, she hopes to complete graduate work at the University of North Carolina with a masters in sport administration. Miller enjoys playing the tenor saxophone with the Mount Vernon Nazarene University pep band and leading praise and worship at her church. Shelby Randulic of Mineral City, daughter of Mike and Deb Randulic. Randulic will graduate in 2010 from Tuscarawas Valley and Buckeye Career Center. She is planning to attend Stark State to attain an associate degree in nursing, then continuing on for her bachelor’s and eventually to become a nurse anesthetist. Randulic has been active in 4-H, where she shows horses, market hogs, and broilers. She is also in the Youth Farm Bureau, American Quarter Horse Association, SkillsUSA, and prom committee at Buckeye. She was also chosen as the Pork Queen for the current year. Matt Demattio of New Philadelphia, son of Doug and Becky Demattio. He will graduate in 2010 from Indian Valley High School. Demattio plans a future in agriculture and will be attending OSU/ATI in Wooster to earn a degree in agronomy. He has helped his family manage 300 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay along with their Angus cattle. He has also been active in Indian Valley FFA, Tuscarawas Junior Fair Board, and on the National Honor Society. Hannah Ghidea of Port Washington, daughter of Jeff and Linda Ghidea. She will graduate in 2010 from Indian Valley High School. She is an eight-year 4-H member, holding many offices in her club. She has taken market hog for six years and received Senior Swine Showmanship. Ghidea is very active at school, participating in student council, Pep Club, varsity cheerleading, journalism, and is president of the school’s National Honor Society. She volunteers her free time at Oak Pointe Veterinary Care and has decided to attend OSU in Columbus, majoring in animal sciences. Her goal is to become a veterinarian. Amie Zumbach of New Philadelphia, daughter of Gary and Kathy Zumbach. Zumbach will graduate in 2010 from Garaway High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and varsity softball. She is also a 10-year 4-H member of the Milkmakers. Zumbach is planning to attend the Vet Tech Institute at Bradford School in Columbus. Clayton Zeigler of Dover, son of Jim and Julie Zeigler. Zeigler will graduate in 2010 from Tuscarawas Valley and Buckeye Career Center. He is a 12-year member of the Tusky Valley Farmers 4-H Club and is currently the treasurer. In 4-H, he has taken market hog, market steer, and heifers. He was a four-year member of the 4-H Livestock Judging Team. At school, he has participated in SkillsUSA and State HVACR competitions. Zeigler is certified in Type 1 and Type 11 refrigeration usage and currently is employed at Dover-Phila Heating and Cooling. He and his family are also members of the Pork Producers and work countless hours in the trailer at the fair. Zeigler plans on attending Bowling Green University in the Construction and Management & Technology Program. Cory Greenwood, son of David and Julie Greenwood of Newcomerstown. Greenwood will graduate in 2010 from New Philadelphia High School and Buckeye Career Center, where he is in the Outdoor Power Equipment lab. He plans on attending the Power Sport Institute to become a motor sport mechanic. Greenwood currently helps his father lay flooring and his grandfather on Hilltop Pork Farm. Randy Bond of Columbus, son of Ron and Barb Bond of Dover. He is currently attending The OSU College of Veterinary Medicine. While attending college, he is a member of the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association, where he is president-elect of the class of 2013, Food Animal Club, American Association of Bovine Practitioners student member, Community Outreach Committee member, Thierogenology Club, and Heifer International. He is currently assisting to direct the OSU Steel Drum Band and was a member of the Block O student section. He will graduate with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2013.
