Deppert elected president of AC-WH JVSD BOE
                        

The Ashland County-West Holmes Joint Vocational School District Board of Education met Jan. 16 in the Career Center Board Room for the organizational, budget and regular January meetings.

The board did the following during the meetings:

—Treasurer Julie Smith administered an oath of office to newly appointed board member Dave Hunter.

—Nominated and elected Gina Deppert as president and Fred Hartzler as vice president of the AC-WH JVSD BOE for 2025, after which Smith administered them oaths of office.

—Recognized the following: AC-WH JVSD School Board for its commitment to providing quality career-technical and adult public education to the Ashland and West Holmes communities; Danessa Miller, junior, graphics, Ashland High School, for achieving December Junior Student of the Month; Trevor Wilt, senior, maintenance training, Ashland High School, for achieving December Senior Student of the Month; and Rain Thompson, adult education, dental assisting, for achieving December Student of the Month.

—Held a public hearing on the Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center 2025-26 school calendar.

—Heard a presentation on the fiscal year 2026 tax budget and public budget hearing.

—Heard a presentation/discussion from Smith about the permanent improvement levy.

—Approved the resignation of full-time classified personnel Vincent Kotewicz, ground maintenance/custodian, effective Dec. 26, 2024.

—Approved an administrative contract for classified personnel Heather Morgan, cafeteria manager, one-year contract, effective Dec. 1, 2024.

—Approved a revision of a classified personnel contract for Ruth Haney, cafeteria worker, one-year contract revision from part-time to full-time, effective Jan. 1, in accordance with an MOU with AVTA.

—Approved the employment of full-time classified personnel Jamie Wellert, paraprofessional, one-year limited contract, effective Jan. 6.

—Approved the employment of certified/classified personnel as substitutes, effective 2024-25 contract year.

—Approved the employment of Tri-County certified/classified personnel as substitutes, effective 2024-25 contract year.

—Approved a resolution approving the employment of substitute teachers who do not hold post-secondary degrees.

—Approved a resolution approving changing the name of the Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center to Heartland Technical Education Center.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Career Center Board Room.
