Fairless BOE celebrated and recognized retirees
Fairless Board of Education celebrated and recognized Cindy Class and Nate Held, who are retiring from the school district, at its meeting on Nov. 19.
Class has served as middle school principal since 2017 and retired July 31, 2024. She has accepted a position with the Stark County Educational Service Center. Dan Nero is the current middle school principal.
Held has served as athletic director since 2019. He will retire in December 2024. Zach Michael has been hired as athletic director.
Superintendent Michael Hearn said 25 meetings have been planned, to date, to inform the community about the 4.5 mill, 10-year substitute levy that failed to pass on Nov. 5. The levy is a combination of levies originally passed in 1993 and renewed in 2015.
“The substitute levy failed 55% to 45%. Many did not understand a substitute levy, so we need to inform the residents,” Hearn said. “It will not increase property taxes.”
The board also did the following:
—Approved the five-year forecast prior to the submission to the state, prior to Nov. 30.
—Accepted a $6,850 donation from the Baseball Mother’s Club toward installation of batting cages.
—Approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Phoenix Rising Behavioral Healthcare and Recovery for drug and addiction counseling services, effective July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
—Entered into an agreement with Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health to provide education for a student at a rate of $155 per day and $212 per day for therapeutic services until other funding is available or the student is released from C&A.
—Approved a one-year certified contract for Madison Reese, certified tutor, for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.
—Accepted the resignation of Savannah Rose, aide, effective Dec. 4, 2024.
—Gave approval to indoor volunteer track coaches Ben Russell, Krista Doane, Mike Fowler, Pamela Gerig, Shawn Robinson, Jessica Swihart and Gavin Alexander.
—Approved athletic game workers Tammy Kramer, Sean Gerber and Benjamin Grass for the 2024-25 school year.
—Granted one-year supplemental coaching contracts to nondistrict teachers Madison Reese, middle school girls basketball, and Siobhan Berresford, volunteer wrestling.
