Brian Flickinger from Tekton Engineering gave a presentation during the Garaway Board of Education meeting held Nov. 18. He spoke about the possibility of installing air-conditioning in all the district buildings. The cost would be more than $6 million, and the electric service would need to be upgraded in all buildings. Superintendent Dr. James Millet will issue a public release to all district residents.

The board appointed Lee Williamson as treasurer pro tempore, effective Dec. 1, while district treasurer Sheryl Hardesty is on a family medical leave.

The board also did the following:

—Entered into a preventive maintenance agreement with McMillen Heating and Cooling for all district buildings at a cost of $7,680.

—Approved replacement of the Baltic Elementary bus garage roof by Walnut Creek Metals for $13,825.

—Approved disposal of an old vending machine, a commercial glass door cooler and Kreg Pocket Hole machine in the most efficient manner.

—Accepted $7,584 from the Rainbow Connection for a special education classroom, computer equipment and supplies associated with the Rainbow Connect grant. The cost for computer equipment and supplies totaled $7,400.

—Gave approval to the wrestling team trip to West Virginia Dec. 27-28 and one bus to be used for an out-of-state trip and also to Perrysburg Invitational Jan. 10-11.

—Approved the retirement of Michael Fanning, bus driver, effective Jan. 31, 2025.

—Approved one-year supplemental contracts to Matthew Oliver and Josh Honigford, winter strength coaches.

—Approved repairs to the fire alarms at Miller Avenue Elementary by Dawson Security.

Other information

The board recognized October Student of the Month recipients Amanda Benningfield, high school; Elliana Coblentz, middle school; Madison Dunn, artist; and Dillon Soehnlen and Jayce Wallick, athletes.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. in the high school library 146 Dover Road NW, Sugarcreek.
