Ohio Lottery Academic All Star honored
It may have taken a little bit of time but Wayne Elementary fifth-grade student Adam Frank finally received a well deserved moment of recognition during the September Wooster City School District Board of Education meeting for being honored as an Ohio Lottery Academic All Star from the Akron region for the month of April.
After a series of scheduling conflicts prevented him from attending summer board meetings, Frank was recognized at the boards Sept. 27 regular session.
The Ohio Lotterys Academic All Star program recognizes outstanding student leaders who have exhibited a commitment to academic excellence.
Each month, the organization recognizes one student in each of nine geographic regions across the state of Ohio based on academic achievement, community involvement, citizenship, leadership in and out of the classroom and a variety of other criteria.
To be eligible for the award, a student must demonstrate academic excellence, responsibility, citizenship, and examples of leadership and school pride and be involved in extracurricular activities and community service.
Frank was nominated for the award by his then fourth-grade teacher Marge Forbush.
Adam loves learning, said Forbush.
He always comes to class prepared, alert and eager to begin. He is an inquisitive, articulate and well-mannered student who has established himself as a leader in the classroom.
He is known in the classroom for his problem solving abilities, said Forbush, adding, he views each problem as an adventure and creates unique connections to form sound generalizations.
I love hearing about students like Adam, said Superintendent Michael Tefs. He truly loves learning and inspires his classmates to do their best as well.
Frank was one of four students from the Wooster City School District to earn recognition from the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star during the 2010-2011 school year. In addition to Frank, Wayne Elementary second-grader Madison Kurtz, Cornerstone Elementary third-grader Melina Mera and Kean Elementary sixth-grader Hannah DeHart were also named Academic All Stars from the Akron region.
As an Academic All Star, Frank received numerous items, including a certificate of excellence, four tickets to a Cleveland Indians game, recognition at the game, merchandise from the team and a variety of Partners in Education merchandise from the Ohio Lottery.
An article about Franks accomplishments has also been posted on the Ohio Lotterys website.
The Academic All Stars program is part of the Ohio Lotterys larger Partners in Education program, which also includes recognizing outstanding K-12 teachers and faculty for their excellence in the classroom, leadership, creativity and community involvement and dedication on behalf of Ohio students through its Teacher of the Month program.
