In January the Southeast Local School board held its organizational and first regular meeting of 2024 at Waynedale High School. The board approved the minutes from its prior meeting of Nov. 20, in which the board accepted the resignation for retirement purposes of James J. Ritchie, effective July 31, and then also approved the rehiring of Ritchie, effective Aug. 2.

The board approved the purchase agreement with the Village of Holmesville for Holmesville Elementary School. The board also updated the community on the progress of the new K-12 school as of December 2023. The building progress updates are located at www.southeast.k12.oh.us/district/school-building-project. The building progress report is divided into reports by areas labeled as A through G. Progress is noted in each area with a description of construction phases and progress percentages for each type of work. Multiple photos are available with each update, with updates provided monthly.

The board also completed the business of approving the 2024-25 school year calendar, approved membership in the Ohio School Board Association and approved renewing a contract with the OSBA’s Legal Assistance Fund from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024. The OSBA Legal Assistance Fund has participated in litigation of statewide significance involving member boards of education and provides supportive assistance to boards of education in cases or controversies of statewide significance. It is not structured to provide boards with day-to-day routine legal assistance.

The board approved the list of 86 graduates for the May 25 graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. at Waynedale High School, assuming the graduates meet necessary requirements.

The next board meeting will be Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
