Kevin Beachy has taught in the West Holmes Local School District for the past 18 years.

Beachy, also a longtime coach in the district, went into teaching because he always wanted to be a teacher.

He has a lot of favorite memories over the years, saying there are too many to list.

His students’ resilience is one of the positive things he’s encountered as a teacher.

“(When I first started teaching, I didn’t realize) how many negative things kids overcome and still flourish,” said Beachy, who teaches Spanish at West Holmes High School.

Seeing a lightbulb turn on in his students’ minds is rewarding for Beachy.

“When it clicks for a student and they start understanding a topic or the language (is the most rewarding part of my job),” he said.

Beachy said the most challenging part of his job is apathy.

When Beachy was a student, he participated in baseball, cross country, drama, musicals, Spanish Club and National Honor Society.

He has been the head cross country coach at West Holmes High for the past 17 years. He enjoys running, spending time with his family, attending church and working on his family’s tree farm when he’s not teaching.

“Teacher Spotlight” is a feature on a local teacher.
